Changing perspective

Perspective matters. Photography helps us see things from a different perspective. When I take photos, I look to fill my frame with something that isn't usually looked at. Tons of people take photos of flowers. Why wouldn't they? Flowers are gorgeous. I too take a lot of photos of flowers but when I do I try to take the photos from a perspective that people aren't used to.

Another important concept when it comes to perspective is the way in which we look at images. When I first took and placed this image, I first situated this image horizontally. I printed the photo and showed it to one of my instructors. I didn't hand the image to him in any specific fashion, and when he started looking at it he was looking at it from the angle below.

I asked him why he was looking at the photo like this and he said because he liked the way the lines of the petals flowed to the top of the frame. I had never looked at this photo from this perspective. I experienced a change in perspective.

It's important to look at things from different perspectives. When we do this, we see and learn new things that we wouldn't have before. This is why I take the photos that I do.

Hello, there.

Welcome to my photo blog.

This blog is largely inspired by the work of Ralph Waldo Emerson. During his time, Emerson discussed controversial topics that he thought were important to discuss during the time of the Industrial Revolution. The Information Age is similar to the Industrial Revolution because they both depict a time period when America becomes more involved with technologies to advance society. One thing that worried Emerson and similarly worries me is that people are becoming too involved with the progression of technology and society that they forget about self-preservation and education.

This is why it is important to look at the bigger picture of what is going on in the world. I want to show people that it's essential to ponder our surroundings and take time to educate ourselves about something other than what's going on in the mainstream. Now, I'm not trying to make a big statement about anything. I simply want to explore ideas through Photos&Words.

Some words about how things will workEach post is going to include photos about a certain idea or concept. This doesn’t mean that I won’t revisit the topics later; I took pictures of ice and frost in the past and I’m going to take more ice and frost photos in the future. Also, there might not be photos in every post.
